Miss Earth is close to my heart. Still, I love all the Big 4 Pageants so dont get me wrong. Honestly, this is difficult to do in Miss Universe (and the other ) because of their long stay in the pageant. I will try in the future.

The power of white gown: Out of 13 winners of Miss Earth, 6 was wearing a white gown in the Finals Night

Both represented Cebu City in Miss Philippines Earth. Both trained under Kagandahang Flores (Beauty Camp that trained beauty queens like Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman and Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago). Both are Sinulog Queens in their National Costume.

A Lookback: From Alexandra to Alyz

Venezuela is the most successful country in the world of beauty pageants. It boasts 7 Miss Universe titleholders, 6 Miss World titleholders, 6 Miss International titleholders and with the recent win in Miss Earth, 2 Miss Earth titleholders. No country has done such an impressive peat.

This is a look back of the Venezuelan queens who competed in Miss Earth since 2005

In 2001 a pageant was born which is Miss Earth. After Brazil’s win in 2004, the Miss Earth was considered as the 3rd biggest pageant in the world.  In 2005, Alexandra Braun, a runner-up in Miss Venezuela 2005 competed in Miss Earth and won the crown.

Venezuela proved that it can dominate any pageant. In 2006,  Marianne Puglia climbed her way to the Final 4 even with a not so good answer. Probably she could win that time but Chile’s beauty is just too hard to ignore and a back to back win will not be favorable.

In 2007, another stunning delegate from Venezuela graced Miss Earth in the person of Silvanna Santanaella (an Italia nel Mondo winner) and landed in Final 4. Heavy favorite India was stunning and left with such powerful answer and Canada’s answer was just flawless, so Silvanna wasn’t able to outshine both ladies. Canada won and India peaked in little bit frustrating 1st Runner up finish.

In 2008, Daniella Torealba landed in Top 8, but was not able to continue the Final 4 streak. Brazil and Philippines ruled the stage with their fiery catwalk and Tanzania and Mexico are too mesmerizing to ignore. Philippines won its first Miss Earth crown.

In 2009, Jessica Barbosa was charming but she wasn’t chosen as the overall winner. Here is an interesting speculation: Philippines was not chosen because the judges doesn’t want a back to back victory. Spain’s answer was weak and as for Venezuela, they won the Miss Universe that year and fans didn’t like the back to back victory. Leaving Brazil safe. Again, it is just a speculation. Brazil won its 2nd crown and Venezuela settled for a Miss Earth-Water.

In 2010, Mariangela Bonani was sent to Vietnam. She was the first delegate of Venezuela under the genius and now I call him “Pageant Wizard” Osmel. She wore a red gown that makes me think of the one Alexandra Braun wore. At the end of the pageant, she wasn’t able to duplicate Alexandra’s feat nor at least taking an elemental crown. India finally won that time

In 2011, the gorgeous Caroline Medina came to Manila and enchanted us. She climbed her way to Final 4. Unfortunately, she had a poor translator (insert a not so chill mood) and those who did not understand Spanish will never know what her answer would be. I think she would have won or at least she will be Miss Earth-Air, runner up to the bubbly Ecuador.

In 2012, another stunner from Venezuela came in the person of Osmariel Villalobos. She effortlessly climbed her way to Final 4 but ended up only as Miss Earth-Water. Her answer was weak and even if she would have a strong one, she will only settle for Miss Earth-Air. Czech Republic was too stunning to ignore and all were enchanted with her beauty.

This year, Alyz Hendrich had an outstanding performance since the pre-pageant activities began. She bagged 4 sponsor awards. She was a Top 15 semifinalist in Resorts Wear competition, a runner up in Swimsuit and bagged the Best in Evening Gown.  She was consistent throughout the pageant. Her beauty is totally in (In Filipino, Patok na patok) with Filipino fans, commenting she is more beautiful than Miss Universe 2013. So don’t be surprised with the Sponsor awards she hoarded. I really thought that Gabriela Isler winning Miss Universe might hurt her chances, but thankfully, it didn’t. It was clear for me that from the start that she won in her country upto her journey in the Philippines, she is the winner. After 8 years, she bagged the second crown for Venezuela and I as one of her fans couldn’t be more happier.

So that is the journey of Venezuela’s path to its 2nd Miss Earth crown. I am not sure with a back to back peat but it would take years for another Miss Earth crown for this country.

Before I move on to Miss Universe 2012 pageant, I want to feature someone again from Miss Earth. So here it goes…

I remember the first time I watched Miss Earth in a local channel in the Philippines. It was February 2006 and I accidentally found that there will be a replay of Miss Earth 2005. I didn’t know then who the winner was and wasn’t aware of Miss Earth until that night.

I wasn’t rooting for any contestant but keep my eyes glued on a particular contestant, which is Alexandra Braun of Venezuela. I’m not really sure why but maybe because Venezuela is the country to beat in a beauty pageant.

Venezuela made it all the way to the Final Four, where she was called last but definitely not the least. The final question was “If you are to save one of these two elements of Mother Nature, water or air, which will you choose and why?”

The first three girls weren’t able to choose one from air and water and said both elements are very important, thus choosing one is not possible. Then Venezuela came along and didn’t follow the answer the girls before her. Her answer was Air, because it gives us life and it’s what we breathe.

Realizing her answer now, it was like “Boom, ok, she was the clear winner”. A very intelligent answer. Short but indeed meaty and powerful. Self Explanatory. That made her win the crown

I wonder where she is now. Wikipedia tells that she is a household name in Venezuela.

It’s been 7 years since Alexandra won and Venezuela is working hard to duplicate Alexandra’s performance. It’s on the way but Miss Earth is recently giving the crowns to those who have yet to win their Miss Earth. The thing here is that “wait patiently Venezuela. Your 2nd Miss Earth crown is there, just wait, wait.”
