Catharina Choi Nunes of Korea, Miss Earth Fire 2013
Last year, Katia Wagner is one big surprise for me. On the other hand, Catharina is my sentimental favorite for the crown. Catharina Choi will be my forever favorite beauty queen from Korea. I think she is the best Miss Korea and if there is anyone that could beat her for that, it will be Honey Lee.As for these two countries, I know their time will come. I hope to see gorgeous ladies from these countries again.
Thank you Katia and Catharina for showing how it is to be an earth warrior. Thank you for gracing Miss Earth events when needed. Wherever you are right now, I hope you are doing well. Thank you for not giving up your crown and keeping it til this moment. Thank you!
Miss Earth is close to my heart. Still, I love all the Big 4 Pageants so dont get me wrong. Honestly, this is difficult to do in Miss Universe (and the other ) because of their long stay in the pageant. I will try in the future.
The power of white gown: Out of 13 winners of Miss Earth, 6 was wearing a white gown in the Finals Night

But in 2014, Miss Earth Water is wearing white and Miss Earth 2014 is wearing a red gown…

When Oli Pettigrew is the host (2010 and 2013)
The winner wears a white gown
Thailand is Miss Water and both are wearing red
The first girls that were called in the semifinals became The Miss Air. Miss Air is wearing white gown and was crowned by Miss Philippines (who was Miss Earth Air in the previous year)
The pageant format is the top 16 parading in swimsuit and evening gown. Then the final 8 answering the final question
2 Asians landed in the final four. India and Thailand in 2010 and Thailand and Korea in 2013

Miss Earth 2002 (dethroned) and Miss Earth 2010 were called last in announcement of semifinalist. Coincidentally, both won the Miss Talent. They answered the same question “Which do you prefer, sunrise or sunset?”

The following countries have at least 5 placements in Miss Earth yet still running for the Miss Earth crown
Its Philippines again. I love my country but I want to see other countries host this pageant. I like Thailand to be next or maybe South Africa. South Korea sounds good, too.
Contestants
I am so pleased with the quality of Miss Earth 2013 contestants. Comparing to the previous editions, the quality of the girls definitely improved. 2012 was flooded with gorgeous girls and I was left wondering, is this Miss Earth? Some of the girls are gorgeous enough that they should compete in Miss Universe. Top 16 was not enough to accommodate them. I feel the same this 2013.
I was surprised with Europe. Too many stunning delegates in Europe and I can’t choose one. Tereza’s win might have empowered these countries and Miss Austria’s 1st Runner up finish might as well make them more optimistic. Another European country might be blessed sooner.
South America has few standouts. Asia is pretty strong with the Philippines, Korea, Thailand, India, Indonesia and one of my sentimental favorite China. Africa has few impressive standouts. I am very much in awe with Miss Tanzania. I am hoping to see another stunning delegate from Africa and other territories with ebony delegates. I hope that at least by next year, an ebony will be declared overall winner and not just Miss Earth-Air finish.
The Stage
It is saddening that the venue is still there. It was dim and I wish they could make it brighter. Why not choose MOA? Though I like the fountain found in the middle of the ramp. 2 ramps instead of one is a good improvement.
The Hosts
I love the pairing of this husband and wife, good job to this couple! but Mr. Oli, please, dont make such mistakes. Still forgivable and I actually find it funny. Haha
Introduction
It is a good number, which is one trademark of Miss Earth. I wish I could feel the excitement more, not sure why I am not feeling this as of this moment.
I love the video made to present this year’s candidates and I hope to see one of a kind next year.
I also love seeing our very own Karla Henry, Miss Earth 2008, giving a heartwarming message to fellow Filipinos and to all countries who have helped. Since Miss Earth is shown around the world, what an opportunity not to miss? Good job Miss Earth! and to her nonbelievers, she is deserving to be Miss Earth during that time, don’t you see she is getting more and more pretty? (And Miss Karla, wont you mind hosting the Miss Earth next year or years to come?)
The Judges
I am well pleased with the media personalities and the It girl (who owns an Ice cream brand). Not a fan of the athlete, maybe invite the twin brothers again last 2011. People from sponsors is understandable. I was surprised with Ms. Schuck as one of the judges though but I think she did well as a judge.
Top 16
To the announcement of Top 16, I wish he added some drama or tell us that there is only one spot left. Waiting time is good
Austria-the girl I ignored. She owns a pretty sweet face.
Turkey- a gorgeous girl but I didn’t see much of her during pre-pageant activities. Glad she is still in
Korea-many doubted her chances but I didn’t. Gorgeous. welcome to Top 16
Chile-I like her before but she kinda faded during the pageant. Not bad seeing her int Top 16
Mexico-not a fan of her really but she’s deserving to be here.
France-one of my favorites!
China-I am not surprised with her inclusion and I am very pleased. Filipinos find this beauty pretty! Good job China!
Mauritius-She has a sweet smile, I know and she hails from a territory not popular in pageants. Sorry, but I wish other girls was called instead of her.
Thailand-Come on, she should be in. Gorgeous!
Spain-Spain is an emerging country in beauty pageants and she is another stunner from this country.
Poland-I am not surprised why she is in. She is pretty and she can be sisters with a pretty Filipina actress.
USA- oh, this is the girl I am not expecting to be in Top 16. She is pretty, not bad
Philippines-yes, she is the host delegate. But she worked hard for her Top 16 spot.
South Africa-an ebony finally. Good job South Africa
Venezuela-duh? she is going to win. I would be ballistic if she is not there.
Serbia-she is my choice for the Face of the Pageant. yey she is in
Europe has 6 ladies. Asia has 4. America has 4 (2 for North and Central America and 2 for South America) and 2 for Africa. Relatively well distributed I guess.
Europe dominates the semis, that’s why probably Ukraine was not in the list. Sad because she has done her part. Crimea and Kosovo are good but I don’t know what happened. Albania, in most of her photos doesn’t look happy and I am so turned off! It is as if she doesn’t like being here. Russia was not included and if she wins, people will think the rumors are true.
I was bit sad India was there. She did well and I think she should have been there, even if I am not a fan of her. To her fellowmen, stop being bitter and cursing this pageant. Just because she didn’t make the Top 16 doesn’t mean my country hates yours. Stop with those lines the pageant results was rigged. It was a fair judgement! Don’t be so blinded with your disappointment over Sobhita’s nonplacement. Be a good sport and move on. Just be proud that Miss India performed well your country and that is something to be proud of.
Swimsuit
I am so in awe of Ricky Abad’s designs. Wow! This is better compared last year. The fit is good this time and sexy but not skimpy. As for music, I love the music choice for this round
Austria-I am so wrong to ignore her. Pretty face, good body and nice presence. Good job! (My Score:93)
Turkey-She is gorgeous but her swimsuit leans on healthier side. (89)
Korea-She is flirty enough on stage. Like it. (92)
Chile-Good shape she got (91)
Mexico-I love her sexy walk. You rock. (93)
France-There is so much elegance and very queenly about her and her walk. (91)
China-She is doing her very best and I find the support of her countrymen sweet. (90)
Mauritius-Decent performance from a not so recognized teritory (88)
Thailand-Her body and her walk? Sexyness! Good job Thailand (93)
Spain-She got it all good. Nice walk and presence. (92)
Poland- Decent performance from this lady. (91)
USA- She owns a sweet beauty and a rocking body (91)
Philippines-That fiery catwalk and that vavavoom body. Good Job Philippines. Oh, I so want to be in gym right now! (94)
South Africa-some of the ebony delegates has bigger frames, but this girl has a rocking body. omg look at her waist! Where’s the nearest gym? (92)
Venezuela-perfect. perfect. perfect (95)
Serbia-bubbly in the stage and looks she enjoys it. (93)
Evening Gown
The format is changed. I think I prefer this because this makes the selection better. As for the song, Wrecking Ball, seriously!?! This is a good segment but the song wre-e-eck it.
Austria-She looks like a princess with this gown. Good job girl! (My Score:94)
Turkey-uh oh, what’s with her gown? Gorgeous lady but she deserves so much better (88)
Korea-She looks gorgeous and elegant. Lovely queen. (93)
Chile-She did well enough. (90)
Mexico-Glamorous and sexy! (94)
France-elegant, but I am not a fan of her updo. (92)
China-sexy gown! I am so sad with the hair, though. I wish she let it down or have it curled. Too bad (90)
Mauritius-she looks elegant. Mauritius, her people must feel proud (90)
Thailand-she is just mesmerizing. Good job Thailand (94)
Spain-What a dangerous gown she wears but she still rock it. (92)
Poland-Looking like a pretty debutante. Pretty lady indeed. (92)
USA- a good gown choice. Gorgeous. (91)
Philippines-sexy gown though I am not a fan of her overall look. Thailand and Korea surely outshined her at this round (93)
South Africa-not really impressed but she looked good (91)
Venezuela-She is doing everything right. Clearly, she won at this point (95)
Serbia-Not so good gown thanks that I am focused on her sultry face right now (93)
The Final 8
From my scoresheets and personal choice, this would be my Top 8: Austria, Korea, Mexico, Thailand, Spain, Philippines, Venezuela and Serbia. Judges picked Poland instead of Spain. Still favorable to me and this is one of the best Top 8 I have seen.
I hate the way the Final 8 was announced. Where is the suspense?
Final Question
Austria-Meaty answer. Good job, still (My score on her answer:92)
Korea-I like her answer: strong, to the point and profound! I don’t get why so many people are saying she has a dumb answer. Why would you jibber jabber when you can get straight to the point? Oh, I am keeping her answer as one quotable quote. (93)
Mexico-Speaks from the heart. Good job Mexico. (91)
Thailand-wow, Thailand. Very intelligent answer. I am impressed. (94)
Poland-the problem with interpreters. It sucks. Good job Poland. Your answer was decent. (90)
Philippines-good job Philippines but I honestly feel it might sound generic. Good point: the delivery. (91)
Venezuela-her answer sounds favorable to me still (92)
Serbia- ok. not bad. not that good though. (90)
The best answer goes to Thailand. From my personal choice, this would be my Final 4: Austria, Korea, Thailand, Venezuela. Austria as Miss Earth-Fire, Korea as Miss Earth-Water. Thailand is my Miss Earth-Air but I wont mind seeing her win the crown Venezuela is my Miss Earth. She was flawless all through out and her answer is not really wrong plus she deliver it well.
Final Walk
I love Tereza Fajksova and I will surely miss her. She is a goddess indeed. David Pomeranz as performer sounds old fashioned to some, but I think he made the night more classy. He is one of my favorites when I was very young (and dont ask when was that?)
Where are the prizes for the new Miss Earth?
The Winners
The winners are well deserved. Philippines was outshined and her answer was not really I was hoping for, so I don’t believe she was a sacrificial lamb. Good job still Miss Philippines, for most of the fans thought you were the girl to beat. Good fight! For Miss Korea, I feel good she has elemental crown. Thailand sends a gorgeous girl and I don’t doubt Thailand will win their crown soon! Austria deserves her placement, good job Austria! and for Venezuela, very deserving. Filipinos loved Alyz, believe it!
Overall, the Miss Earth is a spectacular event. No amount of grandiose production could outshine Miss Earth, for they have really a clear decent purpose. Miss Earth is here to stay.
See you next year. and now we move to next worthy pageant to follow: Miss International 2013
