Miss Earth is close to my heart. Still, I love all the Big 4 Pageants so dont get me wrong. Honestly, this is difficult to do in Miss Universe (and the other ) because of their long stay in the pageant. I will try in the future.

The following countries have at least 5 placements in Miss Earth yet still running for the Miss Earth crown
One pageant site remove Miss Earth as a Grand Slam Pageant. Whatever their reasons are, let them be. I can type a long boring post about why they have made the wrong move, but chose not to. Whatever they say, the world has already accepted Miss Earth as a worldwide international competition. In a pageant forum, Miss Earth has about 4000 posts, not far from Miss World and Miss Earth is one of the most viewed pageants in the world.The fate of Miss Earth is not in their hands and Miss Earth will continue as one pageant who chooses deserving winners. Miss Earth promotes a worthy cause for mother nature and it deserves some respect.
Miss Earth may have surprised us a lot of times, but Miss Earth produce a lot of stunning winners and the pageant looks beyond the beauty of a contestant. This Year, Miss Earth is the only one who refused to crown the local girl. To me, I sense another reason why they had remove Miss Earth as a grand slam contest.
So here are the previous winners of Miss Earth and judge for yourself if Miss Earth is a grand slam pageant or not. For me, Miss Earth achieved its Grand Slam Status not because of that pageant website standards but because of its credibility. The credibility was earned by the cause of the Pageant, to the respectable judges, and the support of the national directors and fans.NO amount of “status” can remove and put Miss Earth down. The ladies that won the crown are more precious than that Grand Slam Status. Miss Earth will stand the test of time because it holds on to their worthy cause.
She is a blonde barbie who looks like Paris Hilton in some angles. Though I prefer her to wear another gown for the finals night, she remains regal, as if she came from a royal family. I say she is a good winner but her crown is not.
Final Question in Miss Earth 2001: “Technology makes life very convenient but it is also being blamed for certain environmental problems. How do you propose to find a balance between technology and Earth preservation?”
Answer of Miss Earth 2001: “Well, of course technology does make a lot of problems for us in the environment. But we can do something to make it better. For example in Denmark, we do a lot of farming and we use a lot of technology to make it easier for us. But that also means that we use a lot of chemicals that spread and go down to a ground water and makes the ground water worse. So what we can do and what we are doing at the moment is to try to make a regulations on what chemicals are allowed to be used and also thereby make controls of it so we can use those chemicals less.”

2002
Winfred Omwakwe of Kenya
For me, she should have been given the crown during the coronation night. Yes, the dethroned winner was stunning, but there is something in Winfred Omwakme that shine during the night and to me, she gave the best answer. Thankfully, she was given the title months later that was rightfully hers at the Finals Night.
Final Question in Miss Earth 2002: “Which has more significance to your life right now, a sunrise or a sunset?”
Final Answer in Miss Earth 2002:”To me, the sunrise and the sunset are very important. But I must say, the sunrise is more important. I look forward to a brighter day. A day when all of us will put our hands together to fight against all our environmental problems and to live a better lives. Therefore, I believe all of us would like our children to have a better day. A day which they can breathe fresh air and drink fresh water and live a happy life.”

2003
Dania Prince of Honduras
A former contestant of Miss Universe, this beauty from Honduras won her country’s 1st major Big 4 win. A well deserve win for her, since she carries a regal and classic beauty that is hard to match.
Final Question in Miss Earth 2003: “At the end of each rainbow, so the saying goes, is a pot of gold. As a woman of the earth, instead of a pot of gold, what else would you rather find at the end of the rainbow?”
Winning Answer of Miss Earth 2003: “Honestly, there are things that are much more important than gold. For me personally, the most important is the sentiments of the people. To give love and smile to a human being, to be able to give them a hand when needed, to give help to someone who needs your presence, and also God is always with us which is very important. The first thing I think when I open my eyes is heaven. When we have Him in our hearts and mind, everything is better. And I can see people how they really are inside, not if they have gold or not. For me the rainbow means life, God and happiness.”

2004
Priscilla Meirelles of Brazil
The most favorite winner among fans. Personally, I think she is the best winner yet. One cannot simply forget her, even it has been 8 years since she won. Age doesnt matter for her, as she gets prettier and prettier. (You might check my blog post about her:Priscilla Meirelles, Miss Earth 2004)
Final Question in Miss Earth 2004: “On a quiet night, you could hear the sounds of nature talking to you. What do you think is its message and what would you like to tell it back?”
Winning Answer of Miss Earth 2004: “What I can hear is that nature is saying that love is missing. Because people don’t respect each other, they don’t respect the nature, they don’t respect life. That’s why nature is reacting to everything that people do to her. Who suffer is us, humankind. And love is what would solve our problem”

2005
Alexandra Braun Waldeck of Venezuela
A 1st Runner Up in Miss Venezuela 2005, this beauty was handpicked to represent Miss Earth and eventually won the title. She brings the Venezuela sash which is already a threat to others and then she had that amazing brain power which sealed her victory. I say her win is a classic one. Her 1st Runner Up placement is a blessing in disguise.
Final Question in Miss Earth 2005: “If you are to save only one of the two elements of Mother Nature, water or air, which would you choose and why?”
Miss Earth 2005 Winning Answer: “The four elements are important but air is the most significant because it gives us life and it’s what we breathe.”

2006
Hil Hernandez of Chile
One of my favorite Miss Earth contestants that eventually won the crown. She has those mesmerizing eyes that maybe help her win the crown. She might not be everyone’s favorite but she is sure stunning.
Final Question in Miss Earth 2006: “What effort must the country’s government exert to stop global warming?”
Answer of Miss Earth 2006: “We have to educate the people on global warming. We should help them to control pollution, create global consciousness. Bigger industries are involved here. You run the economy, now it is your turn to take care of Mother Earth”.

2007
Jessica Trisko of Canada
Jessica’s win is questionable to some, but one should check her final answer why she was given the crown. Though I would admit I prefer Miss India than her, I was blown away by the answer she gave that finals night. Even the host was loss at words on how he will describe her answer. Her answer still gives me chills! Definitely, I will say that a pretty face will leave us staring at a woman for more than hours but a beautiful mind will make her the unforgettable one. I say that she deserves her win.
Final Question in Miss Earth 2007: “How would you describe the beauty of Mother Earth to a blind child?”
Answer of Miss Earth 2007: “I would say that the beauty of Mother Nature smells as sweet as the sweetest rose… that the beauty of Mother Nature feels as soft as the softest leaves… and, that the beauty of Mother Nature sings like the birds in the trees.”

2008
Karla Henry of Philippines
Even before with Venezuela’s back to back win in Miss Universe, there is already a back to back win in Miss Earth. Jessica Trisko, who is Half-Filipino crowned Miss Philippines Karla Henry who is Half-Canadian. Again, Karla’s win seems controversial since she is a Filipina that won in the Philippines, but Karla Henry is one pretty young lady with superb catwalk skills. Her gown is something I wont go for, but she definitely shine that made her win the crown.
Final Question in Miss Earth 2008: “If you have the chance to speak to the newly-elected US President Barack Obama about the state of the global environment, what would you tell him?”
Answer of Miss Earth 2008: “What I would tell to the newly elected president of the United States, being one of the most powerful countries in the world, I would encourage him to implement environmental knowledge in the curriculum of all schools whether in the United States or in the Philippines. Environmental knowledge is something that all of us must share, but most importantly we must teach the youth that this is something that we should instill in them so that in the near future they will be the ones to take care of our mother Earth.”

2009
Larissa Ramos of Brazil
For me, any lady from the Final Four is rightful to win the crown, for these girls are the best ladies of the batch. Though for some reasons, Larissa Ramos won its country’s 2nd Miss Earth crown. Another deserving lady to win the crown.
In my opinion, This is the best Final 4 of Miss Earth
For the 9th edition of Miss Earth, no single final question was asked. Instead, images were flashed on screen and each of the eight finalists were tasked to tell something about it.
Statement of Miss Earth 2009: “I come from a country that has the largest rainforest in the world, and it is also known as the ‘lungs of the world.’ But we cannot just say that we are the ‘lungs of the world’ because my country produces a lot of air pollution as well.”
~~~
2010
Nicole Faria of India
One of the most beautiful and most photogenic Miss Earth winners. Finally, India takes its Miss Earth crown after two first runners up in 2006 and 2007. Finally!=)
‘What time of the day do you prefer – sunrise or sunset?’
Statement of Miss Earth 2010: ” Sunrise. Because each time I wake up to a new day, it feels like a new beginning to me with renewed hope”.
~~~
2011
Olga Alava of Ecuador
Another win for Ecuador after Miss International. Olga is my most favorite Miss Earth to date. She might have surprised everyone with her win, but she prove the world that she really is the Mother Nature’s queen.
Final Question in Miss Earth 2011: “Why the candidates chose education as the environmental initiative that world leaders should prioritize?”
Answer of Miss Earth 2011: “Education is the best solution for the environment because children are those who have to preserve the Earth for future generations.”
~~~
2012
Tereza Fajksova of Czech Republic
Tereza Fajksova may not have the best answer, but the way she handle the tremendous pressure made her win the crown. Plus, she is a true princess in her white, flowy gown. Thankfully, the judges gave her the crown and they didn’t make a mistake. She is one of the most loved and respected winners this year, achieving a celebrity status in her country. About her final answer? I say I would prefer this answer of hers than Olivia Culpo’s answer.
Final Question in Miss Earth 2012: “‘What would you consider as your defining moment as a woman?”
Answer of Miss Earth 2012: “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I’m so afraid that’s my problem because I didn’t understand the question so I will try to say this message: I want to say that we have to protect Mother Earth because you know, how big mother earth and the people is not a privilege it’s a duty for us living on this planet…thank you…she gave us everything what we need to the life, so let’s respect her and she will be respect us, so thank you, thank you so much…salamat po..I’m so sorry .”
Priscilla Meirelles won the 4th Edition of Miss Earth held in the Philippines. It was the first Miss Earth crown for Brazil, after 2 Miss Earth-Air in 2001 and 2003. It was also an end of drought for Brazil to win a major international beauty pageant for about 30 years. Her win made Brazil the first country to win the Big4 pageants.
As young girl, she was described as a tomboy. Discovered by a talent scout while hanging out with her mother, she join a contest and after some series of events, she became a representative of Brazil for the fourth edition of Miss Earth. Then we already knew what happened next.
It has been 8 years (wow, that seems so fast) since she was crowned, yet people cannot simply forget her. I myself associates her name whenever I hear Miss Earth. Recently, I saw her in a local news program and she looks really, really really happy and as gorgeous as always.
“What I can hear is that nature is saying that love is missing. Because people don’t respect each other, they don’t respect the nature, they don’t respect life. That’s why nature is reacting to everything that people do to her. Who suffer is us, humankind. And love is what would solve our problem”1
